What does an orange grove in California have to do with Fifth Avenue Internet Garage? The orange groves in California, in order to protect the crop from frost damage during the winter months, uses what is called a "California Wind Machine For Citrus." Basically, an engine drives a large propeller which moves warm air from above the grove down, keeping the frost off of the oranges which would destroy the crop. One grove owner uses a 1969 model V8 engine to power the wind machines in their grove. The engine will run on the battery until the battery is exhausted and the engine dies and then an alarm sounds. Since this can happen at any time of day or night, the grove owner searched the Internet for a solution and found Randy Rundle, owner of Fifth Avenue Internet Garage. Randy then created a kit that can be installed by the grove owner which converts the machine from a generator to an alternator. Problem solved.

Randy designed and built the first 6-volt alternator in 1987. Up to that point there was no such thing as a 6-volt alternator, only modern 12-volt alternators were available.
